Peru honors the leaders driving the nation’s meetings & events industry
The event celebrated the visionaries working to solidify Peru’s reputation as a premier destination for world-class, large-scale events.
On February 26, 2026, the renowned Municipal Theater of Lima, located in the Historic Center, hosted the recognition ceremony "Leaders who leave a mark – Peru, country of encounters." This initiative was created to honor the professionals whose dedication has helped raise Peru’s profile as an increasingly relevant global hub for international meetings, congresses, and events.
Thanks to its historical value, iconic architecture, and strategic location in the heart of the city, the Municipal Theater of Lima has established itself as an ideal venue for events within the tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector.
This space blends heritage elegance with modern infrastructure to host ceremonies, conferences, and cultural gatherings, offering attendees an experience that integrates art, history, and hospitality. Furthermore, its proximity to key attractions in Lima’s Historic Center allows events to be paired with cultural tours and incredible gastronomic experiences, strengthening the capital's projection as a premier destination for international meetings and summits.
The event featured a concept inspired by "Old Lima," reflected throughout its decor, and gathered nearly 200 guests from the MICE ecosystem. This group included tourism entrepreneurs, convention bureau representatives, institutional authorities, and trade association leaders.
During the ceremony, 34 leaders from various professional sectors were honored. Among them were deans, presidents, and officials from professional associations and institutions spanning disciplines such as medicine, chemistry, engineering, finance, agribusiness, translation, and social sciences.
These specialists have played a fundamental role in promoting international bids that have led to Peru being selected as the host for major regional and global congresses. Thanks to their leadership, numerous international organizations have chosen to hold their meetings in the country, creating opportunities for academic exchange, professional development, and economic growth.
The significance of the meetings & events industry
The meetings and events industry represents one of the most dynamic segments of the global tourism landscape. These types of gatherings do more than just mobilize thousands of high-level professionals; they also drive knowledge transfer, innovation, and international cooperation between institutions worldwide.
Within this context, "Leaders Who Leave a Mark – Peru, a Land of Connection" sought to highlight those who, from their respective professional fields, actively contribute to keeping Peru on the international circuit for specialized congresses and meetings.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from the country's key destinations within the national meetings and events network. Highlights included delegations from the convention bureaus of Lima, Iquitos, Arequipa, Cusco, and the Sacred Valley of the Inkas. Each of these destinations offers a unique blend of modern infrastructure, cultural heritage, and travel experiences, making them ideal venues for international congresses and conventions.
The growing prominence of Peru in the MICE sector is driven by several key factors. On one hand, the country boasts a constantly evolving landscape of hotels and convention centers capable of hosting large-scale events. On the other, its cultural richness, world-renowned gastronomy, and natural diversity provide a unique value proposition for attendees, who get to experience far more than the event itself.
In this way, the ceremony also sought to emphasize the vital importance of collaboration between public institutions, professional associations, and private enterprises. Securing international congresses is a process that demands strategic planning, institutional alliances, and professional leadership. The specialists honored during the event represent precisely that bridge between academic expertise and the capacity to promote the country to an international audience.

Beyond individual recognition "Leaders who leave a mark – Peru, a land of connection" aimed to inspire a new generation of professionals to get involved in promoting international events. In many cases, it is the specialists themselves who drive the bids for their global associations to select a city as the host for their congresses. This role, known in the MICE industry as a destination ambassador, is essential to the growth of this tourism segment.
In a world where knowledge sharing and international cooperation are more important than ever; the meetings and events industry has become a strategic tool for national development. Peru, with its combination of infrastructure, connectivity, culture, and hospitality, is an ideal setting for hosting large-scale events.
Through initiatives like "Leaders who leave a mark – Peru, a land of connection," we honor those who have contributed to this growth and reaffirm our commitment to attracting the congresses, conventions, and international gatherings that strengthen our presence in the global meetings industry.
