Peru named host for the 22nd WFTGA International Convention in 2028
Peru continues to solidify its position as a premier destination for global tourism events, driven by its strategic connectivity and world-class experiences.
Peru has been selected as the host for the 22nd International Convention of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA). Set for 2028, this event stands as the premier global summit for the tourist guiding profession.
Held every two years, this biennial congress brings together guide associations, academic institutions, and both public and private organizations, alongside experts in tourism training and professional development. It serves as a strategic platform for exchanging knowledge, updating industry standards, and strengthening international networks.
Peru’s selection follows a compelling bid that stood out against proposals from Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, and Malaysia, further establishing the country as a reliable, competitive host for high-impact international events. The bid was spearheaded by the Association of Professional Tourism Guides of Arequipa (ASGUIPA) and the Qhapaq Yachay Association of Cusco—a joint effort that highlights the strength of Peru’s professional sector and its dedication to excellence on the global stage.

Additionally, PROMPERÚ is the agency responsible for positioning Peru’s exports, tourism, and national brand in international markets. As part of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur)—the government body that designs and executes Peru’s national trade and tourism policies—its involvement ensured a proposal that met the highest international standards, further strengthening the country’s credibility and image before the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations.
Hosting the WFTGA International Convention represents a strategic opportunity for Peru to strengthen its leadership in sustainable tourism, heritage interpretation, and specialized training. Furthermore, it positions the country as an ideal hub for global technical meetings and professional events—catalysts for building alliances, sharing knowledge, and driving investment across the tourism ecosystem.
In this context, the WFTGA International Convention will be more than just a space for technical dialogue and professional development; it will serve as a premier platform for exploring cooperation, expansion, and project opportunities in one of the world’s most diverse cultural and natural destinations.
